Industrial Appearance

Industrial Appearance

The beam shown to the left and below is shown here as an Industrial appearance beam. However, it was ordered as an Architectural appearance beam so it will be puttied and possibly inlaid to bring it up to architectural appearance.

Industrial Appearance

The photos above and to the right show glulam beams manufactured with clear glue. The photo below shows a glulam beam manufactured with brown glue. Typically, dark lines are visible between the wood laminations when brown glue is used. With an Industrial or Framing appearance this should not matter, but it may become important with the higher appearances.

Incised Bridge Girder

Incised Industrial - Bridge Girder

Incising is available with other appearance classifications, but significantly detracts from Architectural or Premium appearances. The Bridge girder shown on the left has been incised to improve the penetration of preservative pressure treatment into the wood beam. (Pressure treatment is done by others and is not shown here.) While the thick dark line between the two bottom laminations may appear to be an extra thick glueline, it actually contains three (0.07 inch thick) layers of fiber reinforcing.
